The coronavirus quarantine. WK1.
We're 9 days into state of emergency over the coronavirus. No one is allowed to go out except for essential task: food shopping, the pharmacy, this kind of thing.
All other shops are shut. The schools are shut. Over 200,000 people have been left without salary (in a kind of emergency temporary reduncancy) in Catalonia alone.
Traffic leaving Barcelona this weekend was reported down 90%. (The police will charge you if you try to leave travel without good reason.)
The government have just announced that they will extend the state of emergency for another 15 days (after the intial period, which is due to run for another week yet.)
3,500 health professionals (12% of the total) have been infected themselved. 30% of cases on ICUs are between 30 and 60 years old. 1700 people have died in Spain from the virus already. 400 in the last day.
Next week is meant to be the hardest yet.
It's pretty stark.
