About Dr. Carlton Gibson

Hi, I'm Dr. Carlton Gibson, a veteran software engineer, working mainly on and with the Django web framework.
Welcome!

You can find me around the web on on GitHub, LinkedIn, and Mastodon. If you're looking to get in touch, you can send me an email.

The Stack Report

Once a month. A longer form piece on application development, operations, and the process (and business) of making software.

The Stack Report is a subscription newsletter. You can sign up here:

https://buttondown.email/carlton

There are €5/month and €50/year payment options.

You'll be supporting the writing of the newsletter itself, the other content I put online (here and elsewhere) and (indirectly) the open source work that I do.

(If you're in the EU, clicked the "I'm a business" option, and need a VAT invoice, let me know.)

Q: Can I sign-up for free?

You can sign-up without paying anything. I'll send the occasional update email to free subscribers. Think lower-frequency than the blog here, but that's not really the point of the exercise. You won't get the longer form monthly pieces though: that's what you're subscribing for.

Django

I've worked with Django more-or-less forever.

I'm a member of the Django Technical and Security Teams, and I help to maintain a number of key packages in the Django ecosystem, including:

Between 2018 and 2023 I served as a Django Fellow, contracted by the Django Software Foundation to work on maintenance of Django itself.

My current focus is on Neapolitan, my take on quick CRUD-views for Django, and django-template-partials, which provides reusable named template fragments for the Django Template Language.

Podcast

Together with author Will Vincent, I co-host the Django Chat podcast. 🎙️

With over 150 episodes, we have guests from around the community, and we chat about Django. Go give it a listen. 🎧

Consulting

Over more than two decades, I've worked on projects for clients large and small, including Microsoft, Ebay, Audi, and other leading global brands.
