Django on the Med 2: Pescara 🏖️

This week is the second edition of Django on the Med 🏖️ in Pescara Italy. Development sprints: three days to get together and work on Django.

The event is free to attend, and we reached capacity a month or so ago. It’s not “sold out” because we’re not selling anything, but being sold out is pretty cool. It speaks to the energy in the community.

I have a bunch of async tickets on my hit list for the week. Cleaning up some resource usage by tweaking some aclosing() usages, allowing to use TaskGroup with streaming responses, and the biggie whether we can make atomic awaitable.

I’ve got a proof of concept for this last, and it’s API I’d like to have, but (in the naive approach) it brings with it a foot-gun that I’m not sure is worth the price of admission. At Django on the Med 🏖️ we’ve got ORM experts, and the team from Kraken behind the django-subatomic package, and I’m hoping that with us all together, we can find the right guardrails to make exposing the new API realistic.

There are plenty of folks coming, with their own projects I’m excited to see advance, and a good number of new contributors that we’ll see onboarded and advanced.

It’s been a busy summer for me with work, and a few days brain switch is just the ticket. I’m excited.
