A COVID-19 scare

We’ve been sheltering now, the same as you, for over a year. Thus far it’s worked: we’ve been COVID-free.

The EU is behind the US and UK on vaccine roll-out. I keep seeing lots of tweets about folks — you folks — getting their jabs. I couldn’t be happier. It’s coming. A few months from now and it’ll be a different game.

We just need to hold on that bit longer.

So, when my eldest this week developed a sore throat, and then a runny nose, and then a cough — and then we the second one started down the same road — it was like Argh! No! Not now!.

We were able to get a test booked. Given that the second one was showing symptoms, we dragged him along too.

They both got the rapid test, and both negative.

How on earth one picks up just a cold when COVID-19 is about who knows, but there it is.

They’ve now all four of them had it. But who cares? It’s just a cold! 🎉

It’s hardly worth talking about, except it was the major theme of the week. (Preparing for Django 3.2.1 is, well, meh.)

It’s an indication of the constant low-level stress that this whole pandemic results in. The relief of the negative test was palpable. But now we’re back to Just holding on again. 🤞

That holding-on is stressful. I’m taking stock of that again, and making sure to make the appropriate allowances. I will be very glad when we can get a vaccine is all.
