DSF initiatives I'd like to see

Nominations are open for the next Django Software Foundation Board of Directors.

Following the example of Sarah Boyce and Tim Shilling, here’s my list of DSF initiatives I’d like …

The only green Python

Today I learnt. Some fresh Python releases, including Python 3.13rc2 — which is the OK, I better had add it to the flows point for me at the moment …

The Stack Report

Once a month. A longer form piece on application development, operations, and the process (and business) of making software.

The Stack Report is a subscription newsletter. You can sign up here:

https://buttondown.email/carlton

There are €5/month and €50/year payment options.

You'll be supporting the writing of the newsletter itself, the other content I put online (here and elsewhere) and (indirectly) the open source work that I do.

(If you're in the EU, clicked the "I'm a business" option, and need a VAT invoice, let me know.)

Q: Can I sign-up for free?

You can sign-up without paying anything. I'll send the occasional update email to free subscribers. Think lower-frequency than the blog here, but that's not really the point of the exercise. You won't get the longer form monthly pieces though: that's what you're subscribing for.

Django

I've worked with Django more-or-less forever.

I'm a member of the Django Technical and Security Teams, and I help to maintain a number of key packages in the Django ecosystem, including:

Between 2018 and 2023 I served as a Django Fellow, contracted by the Django Software Foundation to work on maintenance of Django itself.

My current focus is on Neapolitan, my take on quick CRUD-views for Django, and django-template-partials, which provides reusable named template fragments for the Django Template Language.
